what will she run? 1/8th mile?

okay, so this kid i know with a ford lightning has challenged me to an 1/8 mile run on the strip of course, when spring rolls around. the lightning runs 9.2's the way it sits.

the truck has a K&N filter, automatic, and superchips tuner set on the highest mode. nothing else. it feels quick, really quick for a truck (and i have a supercharged 2000 mustang) and i'm just wondering what she'll run. is this a good matchup or am i begging for failure?

Ha Ha Ha Ha, ford against ford, NO real winner there.

But seriously folks
If you can drive the mustang you should beat him. 9.2s 1/8 is not very fast for a lightning.

haha, no, no i know the mustang will spank his ***, hell if not i got a supercharger laying around waiting. it was late when i posted, and forgot some pretty important info i think. it's an 06 dodge ram, K&N big drop in filter, and a superchips micromax tuner, set on the highest setting. it's a 2500, automatic.

the thing pulls like crazy, surprised me. it's my dad's truck. if i weren't a recent college grad with no money, i'd go out and buy one myself for a daily.

I think the Ford's gonna beat you. 9.2 is pretty fast and you are pretty dang heavy.

yeah i know it's heavy, maybe it's just because i havent driven my car in a long time (blew up the engine) and i've been driving a focus, but it pulls like a freight train (the truck that is). 9.2 is actually slow, considering what i'm used to, but, i figured the cummins would do better than that. i dont know, we're just gonna lock it in and see.

Well you should not have a chance against a lighting with just what mods you have. You need TC/Trans able to do 15psi boosted launch if its 4x4 or need slicks and traction bars for 2wd. Need to have hard, hooked launch for 60' times to beat a lightning. Then you probably just don't have enough hp with those mods.

That said 9.2s 1/8 is very slow for lightning. Would be somewhere around 15s 1/4 and most lightnings I have seen at the track are a lot faster than that.

Thumbs up

13.7-14.0 is where you will see most stock Gen2 Lightnings running with a decent driver. With just a couple small mods (pulley, intake, tune) they are running low 13s @ 105. Add slicks and they are 12.7s all day long.

As a former 2 Lightning owner, Id put my money on the Lightning.

haha, yeah he knows. i'm not some dumb young kid playing around in daddy's toy. heck, you should have seen him when we got done getting the mustang dyno'd after I put on the blower. he backed it off the trailer and left me in the driveway while he was getting sideways in 3rd. all i could do was watch!

thanks for the responses. the L has a CAI,cat back, and a 4 lb lower pulley. i figured he'd beat me, but i wasn't sure. we're not betting $ on it or anything like that, just a grudge match.

My truck ran about 9.5x in the 1/8. This is basically stock 33x12.5 tires and a smarty on 90hp. I was also launching real soft in 4x4 (about 1-2psi). If its your dads truck and you don't care you might have a chance if you launch with some more boost.

Your friend either:

1. Owns a first production year lightning
2. Can't drive very well
3. Is lying

9.2 in the 1/8 is a mid to high 14 second run in the 1/4, every newer body style lighting I have ever raced against was in the 13s and those with some standard fair mods in the 12s.

With that said...the fastest I could get my 05 5.9 3500 dually to in the 1/4 was 15.02 and that was with my Spdiesel box turned all the way up. With a less potent box but a lighter truck I would suspect you might turn in a high 14s

i thought it should run alot faster than that, but he said it didnt. and yeah i care about it. and no the lightning is a second gen, i think an 01 but i'm not 100% sure. i guess i wont line it up if there's no chance. no point in driving 50 miles one way to a track to lose for sure. plus i dont want to mess up his transmission.

thanks for giving me a reference point guys
