What Light Bulbs to get for more light!!!

Hey guys,

I've been doing some reading, and I think I want to try the Geno's Bright box w/foglight control. I drive off road a lot, and I simply need better lighting.

I think this box with the addition of much better bulbs might help me out. I am looking to replace all the stock bulbs, including the fog lights. I might go with Geno's Fogzilla, where it allows you to add 9005 (instead of hte stock 9006) bulbs to the fog lights.

So these two mods with the addtion of the best bulbs I can buy should help me out for now.

Which bulbs should I get? I would consider the HID stuff as well. Where do I get them?

Thanks a lot guys.

Igor.

Igor,
I went with Sylvania SilverStars for the headlights. That helped somewhat, The 3rd gens headlights are just badly designed. I do hear the '06 headlight are much better.
For the foglights, check out the my picture gallery for modding the 9005 bulb to fit in the fog lamp bucket. It's easy to do and it's almost free. Requires trimming the locking tab that's on top of the 9005 in the picture and removing the two tab guides inside the connector housing. Does require replacing the o-rings seals with size 114.

I second the motion for Silverstars. There may be better and brighter lights out there, but for the price the Silverstars are hard to beat.

MikeyB,

With grinding that connection, it works with the stock wiring harness?

Thanks.

Yes. Removing the two little tabs inside the bulb connector allows the wiring harness connector to fit correctly.

I had the PIAA's, but they blew in three months of barely using them. I use the new Hella's and they are brighter than the PIAA's were and had them for 6 months and no issues with them.

I have Silverstars in the headlamps and HID's in the fogs and I still think they suck, however I do think I am going blind in my older age. To see offroad think about adding 4 100 watt Hella's, they will work wonders...

I also went with silverstar's for headlights. There a bit better and since most of my driving is on the road there night bright enough to blind people. I'm happy with them. I still will turn on the fog lights if its raining and really dark out.

How do you like their brightness?

I looked at a set at a local store today, they were about 2x the price of some of the other ones, but, they were the extreeme white 9007s. I need 2, or 4?

Also, saw some other brands of 9006 and 9005s for the fog lights that has a yellowish tint and were marked "weather bulbs" for fog or rain.

Anyone have any? Are they any good? Or should I just get a matching set of white fog and main lights. I want as bright as I can get.

Thanks.

The PIAA,s added about maybe 20-30 percent more lighting IMHO.I bought 2 bulbs, they seem to fill in the shadows. They are not great by any means.I added PIAA 80xt fog lights for added lighting on my truck.coobie

I installed a couple relays to fire the fogs and the low beams when I click the high beams on. MUCH cheaper than the aftermarket boxes. Here is a link describing the mod:

My brother and his friend both put in Nighthawks, and say the difference is incredible.
