Weight of SRW3500

I am debating on whether or not I need a dually so I was trying to figure out what the payload capacity would be on a 3500SRW, quadcab, 4X4, diesel. I tow a 5th wheel with a pin weight of approx. 2200lbs. but only tow it 1500 miles a year so if the SRW can handle it legally, it might be better. Especially because in Mass., anything over 10,000GVW requires commercial plates so that's $180/year vs. $40/2years.

When I picked up my fifth wheel I stopped by a CAT Scale. I was the only one in the truck, full tank of fuel and no camping supplies since I was just picking it up. My results were 4600 steer axle, 4600 drive axle, and 6760 trailer for a total of 15960. That put me 700 lbs under GVW and 5040 lbs under GCWR.

A few weeks later I reweighed it with the family and gear. It was Me, my wife and 2 children. Also, Firewood, BBQ, Shovel, bicycles, most of the things you would probably bring with you. I only had 1/2 tank of fuel on this weigh. 4900 steer axle, 5160 drive axle, and 7220 trailer for a total f 17280. That put me 160 lbs over GVW and 3720 lbs under GCWR.

A few things about this. On a SRW, you can run out of payload pretty quickly with only a 9900 lb GVWR. Next time, I will load the truck slightly diffrent to move some weight to the trailer and bring me back within limits. I also have a set of running boards that weigh a little over 200 lbs, so that dosent help. My 5'er isnt very heavy. It probably weighs about 8000 lbs empty so use that as a judge for what the pin weight is.

2200 lbs will most likely put you well over 9900 lb GVW, by the time you put a hich, people and supplies in the truck.

Hope this helps.

Here you go SRW SB data:

Truck
Steer 4320
Drive 3220
Gross 7540

This is with the truck loaded with fuel and other normal stuff in it for travel.

My 5VR weight is:

GAWR 10160
GVWR 11437
UVW 7795
CCC 3114
Hitch 1277

Truck & 5VR actual weight per scale:
Steer 4300
Drive 4620 (Hitch 1400)
Trailer 7480
Gross 16400

5VR had full 50gals potable, LP tanks full, various junk you would normally carry.

From what you said You may need to get the Dually.

My truck has a payload of 3k per DC.

My truck is about 7400 lbs with the 5th wheel hitch in, I weighted it at the CAT scales off of 95 in NH, it was about 7200 lbs without the hitch. Where in MA are you? I am in Lynnfield, you don't see too many other members in MA.

Mine is a standard cab 2500, but it weighs 6850...they print it right on the registration.

It shouldn't matter what the truck weighs, they go by GVW determined by the manufacturer usually. My 2500 is rated at 9,000 pounds GVW which put me into the $153 a year range.
