Water pump failure - AGAIN!

Water pump failure - AGAIN!
Just lost my 4th water pump! 


Why do these things always happen on a Saturday afternoon?
The other three leaked badly, but this one seized and it probably has less than 9,000 miles on it. Fortunately I have a spare pump so will change it as soon as the engine cools. When it seized it also shredded the belt.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to the best quality water pump to get and where to get it? What belt and where to buy it.? Heading north across the border in 4 weeks, so will pick up spares at that time, two water pumps and two belts.
I know the w/p's are a weak point on these engines, but this is ridiculous!

That is crazy. Touch wood, I have not had one water pump fail on me on any of my trucks. All but the one I own now was a 5.9 and several logged upwards of 500,000 kilometers...most reached 250K before I got a new one.
I should look into if the 6.7 and the 5.9 use the same pump and will watch this thread.

Update
The engine cooled off enough for me to only burn my hands only a little bit and have now removed the water pump. It turns out the pump is OK as I was fooled by a piece of the disintegrated belt getting between the pump pulley and the tensioner which locked up the pump. Only could see this once the pump was off. This pump turns freely, has no play and is noise free.
So now to figure out why I have had two belts shred in less than 500 miles.
Removed the tensioner and checked the pulley bearing. That was new about 4,000 miles ago and is as good as new. The alternator spins freely and noiselessly. So does the A/C, the idler pulley, the fan and the steering pump. Eyeballing the pulleys, everything looks to be in line. P/S pump has about 1,000 miles on it.
Symptoms began last week when I could hear the belt squealing on startup. It would only last for a few seconds and then go away. Today it did it again, but only as the grid heaters cycled, which in these temps is about 30 seconds. Coming home this afternoon the belt started to squeal constantly for about the last 3 miles. When I stopped at home could see the belt had climbed up on the fan pulley a bit which made the fan pulley look as tho it had moved forward about 1/4".
Now scratching my head. What is going on?

Is the tensioner holding enough tension on the belt? All things being equal, if the belt looks like it's flopping, then there isn't enough belt tension OR you are using the wrong belt! Make sure the idler pulleys are true, spin quietly and freely; and don't wobble. While you're under the hood, check the viscous fan clutch and the alignment of all the pulleys.

Re-installed everything and used my best bad belt with only 7 ribs left, instead of 8. Everything runs perfectly. The tensioner has a lot of tension and the belt has no flop and the pulleys are all in line. No more noises. Will see how it runs in the morning,
Now I am worried because although I did not fix anything, the problem appears to have gone away.

Check your A/C compressor may have siezed up. I changed two of them last week for doing that. Turn the center part of the clutch which turns the compressor. Check the fan clutch wiring also make sure it didn't get caught up in the belt. I have also seen the crankshaft trust bearing go out and cause the crankshaft to move forward when stopping fast. Then the belt will come off the pulley and shred.

Did not check the c/shaft for end play. Will do that to morrow.
