Voltage Problem need Input
Hi,
I'm new here and all ready need help. I picked up mu 06 Ram 2500 4 days ago havent started it for 2 days. This evening I started it and the voltage went up to 15-16 and then I hear a click and the voltage dropped to 12.5-13 the click back up to 15-16. The Lights dim and get bright each time. This cycled several times and then stopped. It remains charging at 15-16. It did occur with engine off initially while in vehicle with interior light on. Noticed the dim/bright. Any direction is appreciated.
Thanks
David

This is a normal occurance. It is caused by the grid heaters cycling off and on causing a large voltage draw. Usually happens after the truck has sat for a while or it is very cold outside.
Totally normal.

i understand about the grid heaters. my question is that my truck seems to charge at about 15-16 amps. this seems high, no? i thought the normal was about 14 amps. the manual states that if the voltage is too high a chime will sound. have not had any chimes. just seems 15-16 is high.
what do you think?
