you have a blockage in one of the lines to cause the pressures to rise to the point it pops the reliefe valve or it was over serviced when the compressor was installed.

My original compressor blew the pop-off vlave as well......due to my overcharging the system 
. Went to O'Reillys and picked up a brand new Sanden (I believe it was) compressor. Installed it, got it charged, and still blows ice cold 2 years later.
