Vin question

what's the designation in the vin for a 6 sp tranny? trying to find a 3rd gen in my inlaws area and all I can find are vins. 1/2 the dealerships don't have the window stickers uploaded.

The VIN doesn't include a trans code, at least according the 2003 Service Manual I'm looking at.

ok, then is there anyway to determine from the vin what the specifics are on a truck other than body style and engine?
