Vent Kit installed

Got my vent kit installed yesterday. My neighbor (who is an ex-mechanic) and I did the job. I highly recommend two peeps for this job. Fairly straight forward install. Took about two hours start to finish. When I dropped my tank, (34 gallon) I had about 3-4 gallons in it by my estimation. When I fueled up, I found out for the first time that my local filling station cuts you off at $75.00 . Reinserted my card and kept going for almost another $10. All said and done I pumped in 34.169 gallons in about 5 minutes. My guess is the tank holds about 38 gallons.

Did you use Dave Kelly's kit? I put one of his in about a year ago. On a trip from my (then) home in the Florida Keys to Strigis, SD, I went 810 miles on one tank of fuel. Put in 37.5 gallons. Like yours, it's a 34 gallon tank. On that tank, I ran 100 miles with the Low Fuel light on and 50 miles with DTE showing 0. I installed mine alone, so it's not a hard job. I used a motorcycle hoist to lower and raise the tank. Dave advertises his kit over on TDR. One of the best things you can do to a 3rd gen diesel.

Yeah, I used daves kit. Had it sitting around for about month or so. I probably could have done the job myself, but it was a lot easier with two people, especially since my neighbor is 6'5" and has long skinny arms. Helped a ton.

Call me stupid but what exactly are you guys talking about? I have not heard of the vent kit. What does it do for you when installed?

Allows you to fill up the topmost part of the fuel tank that is supposed to be air, thereby getting more fuel in the tank and faster by about 15min when filling to the neck. The air pocket is for really hot days when the fuel might expand. IMO I use about a gallon of fuel to get home from the fuel station, so I've never had to worry about fuel expanding and coming out the top.

Yeah I put mine on this weekend too. I didn't notice price of diesel creep back up 2.25 a gallon. I put in 35 gallons it cost me 80 dollars defintely painful.

I'd like to post a product endorsement about Dave Kelly's vent kit. If you've spent 10, 15 or even 20 minutes trickling fuel in trying to get a complete fill on your tank, then you are a candidate for Dave's vent kit. I'm not a pro wrench by any means, 60 years old, 5'8" and installed the kit alone. The kit vents the top rear "bump" in the fuel tank. As I previously posted, on one trip, I put 37.5 gallons into my supposed 34 gallon tank. And did it as fast as the pump would push it in. A cheap, practical improvement to the third gen trucks.

Yep, aint nothing like filling up and heading out. The guy next to me was impressed @ the pump. This is one way for the most accurate milage check. You fill to the neck calculate and there it is, everytime. No more 30 minute fill times. Also, you can stretch out another 150 miles easy

I wonder how much you would gain with a second gen, they also have the same hump for air.

Did anyone have the directions emailed to them? I would like to see them to see what exactly is involved. I am not to confident in drilling a hole in my fuel tank.

I don't know if it's so much the extra capacity as the convenience of not having to dribble in a few more gallons.

Mine runs mostly wide open with truck stop nozzles, so the capacity is all that would interest me.
