Using the overhead mpg feature

OK, just how exactly do you use the overhead mpg feature? I can be running down the road at highway speeds and press reset and after it settles down, will show usually 20 point something mpg.

If I am in town in stop and go traffic and hit reset, it will show 14 or 15 something. Then I get on the highway without hitting reset where I know it has shown 20 something and it will stay in the 14 - 15 range that it was reading during the in town driving.

It is showing you your average fuel milage. If you were to only reset it when you fueled up it should be the fuel milage you got since the last refueling. It isn't instant milage, which is what I think you are thinking of. It is an average, so it'll gradually change when you change your diving for in town to highway or vice versa. Hope this helps. Paul

It's an averaging type of thing. It displays the average mileage since the last reset. If you did alot of 14-15mpg driving, it'll take a while to creep up towards 20 again, and it'll never hit 20 again as long as the lower numbers are still in the equation. I reset mine when I fuel up, then it gives an average for the whole tank. If I make any changes, additives, mods, etc, I'll set the cruise on a flat chunck of road and hit reset at different speeds to get an idea of where the sweet spot is. Mine's 60-65mph for highway right now for 20mpg. It'll do 24mpg at 50mph, but then you'll never get anywhere at that speed....

Also - this isn't an accurate indicator for everyone. Some trucks they are waaay out. I hand calc'd several tanks, and it was only 0.2 out, so I trust mine.

OK, thanks for explaining that. Yes, I was thinking it should have been giving me the current mileage that I am getting at any given point in time.
