90 watts is A LOT of juice going through the airwaves.

Try shielding the Quad computer. Sounds like those high power waves are getting into the Quad's circuit board/chips.

You won't like my statement but the so called ham radios that are on CB are generally not too good a quality radio, they are illegal to start with so they don't keep too close to fcc standards for emmissions, etc. I was talking about the feed wire for the radio. Best to have excellent grounds on the whole system. The ground at the antenna is important also. The coax for the feed wire helps any radiation that may occur from the feed line.

Haulin, so you are telling me that conex isn't a good radio? This radio was purchased new the way that it is. I have just had some work done to it, thats all. I haven't ever had anything wrong with the radio before. Oh yeah, it isn't a ham radio, it is a cb radio, at least thats what the box said it was.

Handy, thanks for the idea, I will try shielding it somehow.

Be sure and ground whatever metal shield you put around the computer otherwise all that RF interference has nowhere to go.

All I am saying is that the radios that transmit over 5 watts input and out of band up towards ten meters are not FCC compliant and therefore they do not necessarily hold to the FCC regulated specifacations on interference, etc. Not trying to beat up on your purchase. They are an illegal piece of equipment. Same with linear amps, they do not have to comply with FCC regs since they are illegal to start with.

Haulin, i know that your not beating up my purchase. You know how truck drivers are when it comes to engines and radios, right!

I know that it is illegal. I have a texas star 350 linear also that I was going to hook to it, but I have to have the radio turned all the way back down to do so. Since I have been having this trouble with it lately I've decided not to. I have a galaxy 55 that is bone stock that I use for a spare. I am probably going to put it in and see if it still acts up.

IMHO, it is the signal from your CB thats triggering your box. I don't have either a CB or a box, but from what you saying, there is definate interferance. I know, stating the obvious here. When my cell phone is receiving a call, just before it rings, our Durango stereo speakers will thump, when the phone is sitting near the radio....so it may not be only a power issue

Interesting trouble your having. I can't wait for the solution!

Ram I think if you look into it, the electronics of the truck are guarenteed to reject interference up to a certain wattage. 25 watts seems to ring a bell. You may try one thing though, there is more interference that comes from heavy modulation on AM than from output power. You might try checking a dead carrier to see if it still causes the problems. If it does not, try a lower modulation. If the radio has been tweeked, they probably ran the modulation up over 120% or so. The stock and legal 100% sounds quite low in the CB world. Hook up a jumper and key it without a mic on it. That may give you a little more info. Of course if you are using ssb you can't do that test.

Hey Brad, I run a 96 inch Shaksphere whip, no hight problems at all and great transmit. You should try a 96 inch or 102 inch glass antenna, they sure do a good job and match really good. Mag mounts have a really bad ground plane match, especially with higher power. You should be ok, mounted in a stake pocket, if the trailer hits it on a 90 degree it is no big deal.

Like I said before, I have heard of quite a few Quads/xzillaraider causing this problem. I do not think it has anything to do with the CB radio. Take the Quad/xzillaraider off and try your CB, I bet it doesn't do it any more.

I think you are putting blame on the wrong box, it's not the CB.

Whenever I key my CB my EGT drops to zero. It's really weird.

Man, we are are having some kind of a problem, huh?

Haulin', I appreciate it, all that sounds good, I am gonna give it a try. I'll let you know what happens. The reason for me using the mag mount was clearance issues. I had forgotten about the whips though. Good suggestion, thanks.

Blue, yours is a new one though, I haven't heard of that one yet. Hope we can all get that one figured out as well.

Hope that everyone had a great fourth!!
