truck and cb don't like one another

Ok, I know that this has been discussed before, but for some reason I can't seem to find it. When I key up the mic on my cb my truck trys to cut off. Can't figure out why it does this. I have rerouted all of my coax and power wires thinking that would fix it but it is still doing it. I know that there were some of you that were having the same problem. Just wondering if anyone might have found a solution?

What kind of radio did you install I have a cobra 29 and have never had any problems with it at all. All I can say is make sure it is grounded!!! antennae and radio to a good ground or you will have problems.

I have a super star 3900, it is made by conex. Yeah, I thought of the ground and I changed some things around and it still does it. It has never done it until after I put the quadzilla in. Thats when it started to do it. Anyway, maybe I'll eventually get it straightened out. Thanks underwood.

The only thing I can think of is were do you get you power from maybe the cb is drawing to much power and leaving something else like fuel shut off short.

Ram350013, I am haveing the same problem and have had for about 5 months. I spoke with Jeremy yesterday and we are now going to try some sort of copper shielding tape. I have tried some torrids from RS and that didn't help.I tried wrapping the harness in aluminum foil and that didn't work so hopefully the copper tape will be the solution. Also I am powered up from the cig lighter. I'll keep you posted and you do the same.

Hmm? interesting. I've never had any problem with mine. Do you mean that the engine actually trys to stop when you key the mic? Do you lose Elec. power to anything else, like the guages, radio, lights OR is it just the engine cutting off like its not getting fueled?

I mean cutting as if you turned off the key. Thru a po192 code and no other power loss. Jeremy siad that everybody else is fixed ---well so much for that.

I was hoping someone had a solution on this issue because my education is in electronics and I can't tell you! Figures. I'd like to know too. Your CB shouldn't pull too much current to shut something off unless you've adjusted the amps and are craking out enough power to talk from TX to NE. Grounds are always a problem when it comes to feedback and static, but not shuting off your truck electronics. That makes no sense at all. I'll ask some other geeks around the office here and see what I can come up with.

My radio puts out 90 watts. It has never been a problem before the quadzilla. But what is funny is that I have several different antennas. It does it with the monkey made and the Lil Wil magnet mount, but it won't do it with the francis fiberglass antenna that I have. I found that out today. This problem has got me all confused. I am now drawing power from the cig lighter. It was straight from the battery when it first did it, then I changed to the cig lighter and it still does it. I have no idea...? I'll keep posting any progress.

Oh yeah, it just tries to cut the engine off, like it is defueling the engine. No electrical problems at all, just the engine.

holy crap!!!!!! 90 watts. I would ecpect a few porblems with that kind of power. I am putting out just a measley 4 watts and I am also getting my power from the cig lighter harness. Never any problems. A quad tow box is in the works... so I will see what happens.

I will give you something to try that in the past has cured problems. Try running coax for the power feed, directly from the battery. Hot wire inside and shield for ground. If you have an external speaker, do the same there.

I don't know what my radio puts out but it is a stock cobra 29 with a K19 magnetic mount on the roof. The coax comes in through the left sill plate and goes across the flour under the carpet. I'm open to suggestions.

Haulin, are you talking about if I have a linear? If that is what you mean, it won't work with mine because I have a internal linear in my radio. I am now really confused because I found out yesterday that it only does it with two of my antennas and not the other one. Anyway, its not doing it now and I am going to see how long it lasts. My coax or my power wires are not anywhere near the quad box anymore and it was still doing it with the two metal antennas. Hopefully if I just leave the fiberglass antenna on it won't do it anymore. We'll see though.
