Transfer of warranty---cost?

I should be picking up my 1st CTD this afternoon. A Silver 03 with only 50K on the OD! Man it looks good!

Someone here mentioned a good point, I need to transfer the warranty over.

How much should this cost at a dealership?

I just got quoted $100 for the paperwork!

Is this right?

Some are free. But my 04.5 cost me $150(70/70)+100(extended care plus). You have to go the Dodge dealer and pay them. But if you are buying from a Dodge make sure they do it for free. You can also call Chrysler direct and ask them the status of your trucks warranty. I would do it before you buy the truck. Chysler has B.S about only allowing one transfer. SO if you are the third owner your truck maybe out of warranty no matter how low the miles are

The $100 is a dealer paper work fee. Thats what they charge you do the loan paper work.

called chrsyler direct, gave them the VIN#.

Found out that the bumper to bumper on these trucks is still 3 yr 36.
*I was told that was the 7yr 70...
*Only the original and second owner are eligable for the warranty. Thrid owner is out no matter what.
*Transfer can be done over the phone thru Chrysler, not only at the dealer.
At least that is what I was told.

Seeing that I'm second in line, I'm off to sign the papers!

You shouldn't have to transfer the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. Aftermarket warranties are their own animal and vary. To find out the requirements go through the paperwork.

So would you be the third owner?
I had to pay $50 to transfer mine, called the number on the warranty papers and all is well.

Sorry to say you are wrong. You have to transfer all Dodge warranties either by phone or dealer. If their is no cost you can do it over the phone. But if their is a charge I think you must go to a dealer.

Well found out some more tid bits of wisdom...

2003 CTD are the only year the warranty stays with the truck...NOT the owner.
No transfer fees at all!!!! Did it right there at the dealer when I picked up the truck last night.

04 and 05 has the second owner warranty limit...

So it would seem, 03 is the year to get if you want a warranty on a used CTD!

PS: I'm the second owner, I knew the original. "Darn fanatical about the truck" !!!

========Filled up for the first time last night.....I'm not used to this...2.69/ gal. HESS, 34 gal tank with the light on, almost came to 80 bucks...

I just looked through the warranty information for both 2003 and 2004 models on

http://www.dodge.com/owners/index.html

Specifically, it made no mention about having to transfer warranties for 2003 trucks but explicitly said in the 2004 model year "Transfer of Powertrain Warranty for Vehicles built on or after 10/1/03." and had the 2nd owner provision and the $150 transfer fee. Am I assuming that I have to do nothing for the 03 model year which I just purchased?

That says Powertrain Warranty. Does this apply to the standard bumper-to-bumper warranty also?

looks to me that the limited bumper to bumper goes with the truck, no need to transfer, regardless of year.
