Tranny fluid recommendations

Dealer overfilled and now it's burnt.

I can get Valvoline or Castrol brand at Autozone.

Should I stick with Mopar, does it matter at all?

I'll be changing the filter as well.

thank you

Yes, the 48re
I have the service manual on cd and saw the ID numbers on the tranny it said to look for but nothing says 48 re in that number.
I don't run Bully dog or anything that ups performance.
Also, are the pan bolts right hand thread?

thanks for the help!

You will also need a torx # 25 for the filter, and ATF +4 for the fluid you choose.

Just an FYI, Mopar ATF+4 is full synthetic Valvoline.

I have been using the Walmart Super Tech ATF+4 (blue bottle) for about three years now. I tow heavy and change it twice a year.

I use Valvoline ATF+4® in each of the trucks listed in my signature. The 2001.5 has 166,000 on the original 47RE transmission, which remains strong and trouble free. I change the fluid and filter at or around the 20k interval to keep the additive pack in the fluid fresh.

I have attached a link which may be helpful with making a decision.

Thanks a bunch.

I picked up the Valvoline ATF +4 though I eyed the Coastal since it was cheaper and sold in gallons but I had never heard or it so didn't bother.

Thanks for the useful link and the heads up on needing the torx 25!

Oddly enough Autozone gives you 2 gaskets with the filter kit

Your original gasket should be reusable.......I've used mine for many changes......I keep the gaskets which come with the filter as backups.

All ATF+4 is synthetic and all of it has to be made to Chrysler's specs for our tranny's. In theory, it should all be exactly the same.

Most of them are slightly different, actually. you'll notice if you read the pdf sheets...I have nothing better to do, than read them hahah.
I know Mobil for one, has their ATF+4 as a semi synthetic...which is odd, as all atf+4 should be full.
