Toyo vs. Nitto

I have narrowed my tire search down to these tire brands and sizes, 285 75 17 Toyo OC and 305 70 17 Nitto TG. Both are E rated. The Toyo is $780 a set and the Nitto's are $864 a set. Which tire do ya'll believe is the best to go with? I am looking for the tire that will not rub and look the best with no leveling kit and stock wheels. I have a lot of weight in the front of my truck and eating D rated tires. Cummins plus a ranchhand with 16500 winch. What are ya'lls opinions? Thanks!

To me, all things being equal, the 305 seems like it will wear better than the 285 simply because there is more square inches in contact with the ground with the wider tire. Thus, less pounds per square inch on the patch of the tire in contact with the ground. I hope that makes sense.

However, if one rubber compound is softer than another and the actual measurements of the tires are somewhat skewed, then all bets are off. Hope this helps.

P.S. You might want to make sure you're not overloading your front axle with all that weight. From what I have read, the Cummins alone puts the weight very close to capacity.

I am going to go with the 285/75 Toyos once my stockers are worn out. They have nearly 4000 pound load rating and overall, most guys seem to think the Toyos hold up better and I think the Toyos have 40K warranty on them. Plus, the price is a little less expensive than other similar tires. Good luck, let us know what you go with. Scotty

I really like the Nitto TGs. I run them in 295/70s. My only thought about the size vs wear you were talking about is the rim width. Running a 305 or wider on a stock wheel can cause the centers to wear quicker than a slightly narrower (285-295) tire. IMO.

tires go round

i had 295/70/17 nitto TGs on my 05 and now have 285/75/17 toyo A/Ts on my 07 and i like the toyos better. the nittos had a more square car look and the toyos have a more A/T truck look. they fit the stock rims well and i also think the tread depth is a little deeper on the toyos too. the prices have gotten way better in the last couple of months also.

Well the nitto's still seem to be back ordered so I guess the 285 75 17 Toyo is the way I am going. Thanks for the responses.

Thumbs down

I am not impresesd with my TOYOS so far with only 20k miles on them. Seem to be wearing fast. My friend has the NITTO TG on his Powerstroke and his are wearing even faster. These tires look good on my truck and ride quiet but thats about it.

I have the Toyo's and at 34k on the clock they still have 7/32" tread. I Tow a 12k 5er 20k of the miles and a 22' boat 10k of the miles. The truck is a weekend tow truck not normally used for personal miles.

I think my Toyo's are wearing really well.
