Toolbox for 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Long Bed - UWS?
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 8 foot bed. I pull a gooseneck horse trailer so I was thinking of a low profile over the rail toolbox. I want to keep things like towstraps, hitch *****, drawbars, tie downs, diesel treatment, etc in it. I was looking at a number including the ones at TSC (delta) and Lowes. However, UWS (United Welding Services I think) makes a nice looking low profile. Has anyone had any experience with these and what is good price for one?
Also, someone said a while back that with a Dodge you need a special kit to hold the weight of the over the rail box? Does anyone know about this and if so can I buy it on-line?

I have a UWS low profile. No problems with it so far.
Think I paid around $225 at a local truck accessory shop.
I didn't install the toolbox support kit, since I have DeeZee aluminum bed rail protectors.

I bought the Weatherguard again. The biggest reason this time was the coating. Weatherguard is using some kind of coating now that won't oxidize like their older boxes did.
I have a low-profile Better Built toolbox on my 03 that I got at Camping World, you can kinda see it in a couple pics in my members gallery. It is the aluminum diamond plate which is nice if you like the chrome look but when cleaned up or polished it is very bright and cast a bad reflection inside the cab when the sun hits it just right. I had my windows tinted limo on the back and that helped a lot, which I wanted them dark anyway. I kinda wished I would have got the black one instead. Also it will loose it's luster as aluiminum will and need to be polished with a good metal polish like Mother's Metal Polish, I have not done it lately and it's dull looking now. As far as it sticking up tall across the bed rail it does not and I can see out the back glass easily I like that about the low-profile part.

I had a black "powdercoated" UWS. The only problem I had was the paint peeling off. I know it was painted now because powdercoat doesn't peel. Other than that it was a really well built box.
I have a low profile tool box. It has a differant name on it but it was made by UWS. Most of the tool boxes that you see with small shops names on them are made by UWS. I paid $225.00 plus tax for mine.
Don't know if you want to consider an in the bed box. Husky and others make them and they come up to just about level with the bed rails so there are no clearance issues. It sits in the bed and is easily accessable from the sides. Lots of room for straps, chains, and other needed gear. The only drawback is the lock mechanism is only on the driver's side so you have to lock and unlock from the driver side of the truck. There are handles to open it from driver or passenger side when it is unlocked. Cost is about $230 at Home Depot. Just an option if you are looking.
