Tire Valve Stem Failure
Hi Fellas
I think this has been mentioned before...but serious eneogh for a reminder.
I was parked (luckily) at a campsite last week when all of a sudden the front right tire valve let go....you could see where a bulge in the valve burst and the tire flattened.
Got it fixed yesterday and happened to check the drivers side...ready to go too...had it replace also...backs ok.
I don't know if this is caused by high tire preasures 60 psi or heavy diesel or crappy valves.
Perhaps these trucks need a comercial type valve or something...quite concerning.
Not good! I was luck I was not driving....costly tire and rim replacement and possible serious accident avoided.
Please check your valve stems!

Saw this and thought I should chime in. I have a 3500 Dually. I put larger tires on and figured while I was at it I would put on the valve extensions (came with my wheels) for the inside rears. Well on a trip from Vegas to Calif someone came along side and told me my inside rear was flat. Long story short... Took it to a shop. It turns out that the extra weight of the valve extensions and the vibration caused the stock stem to shear off. One sheared off the entire brass tip of the stock stem. The other sheared off the stock sten right at the base of the wheel. That's right. Both tires were flat. BEWARE of VALVE EXTENSIONS!

There are different tire valves depending on what load range tires you have on your truck. I had to print out the differences and take them to the tire store after they had installed my tires with "low pressure" valves. They had the correct ones just wasn't aware that load range E tires required a different valve.
