they had a sell "buy 3 tires, get one free, IF you get an alignment for $79"

seemed like a no brainer, tires are ~150 each, so I got it.

their alignment machine requieres the truck to be rolled back 2 feet while on the rack,

and a 8 foot bed truck or a Mega is too long. it fits on the rack, but it is too long to roll back.

so i gotta take it to dealer.

just an FYI before you waste 2 hours waiting to get it on the rack

 

Had the same problem at PepBoys. Left the truck there all day and 8 hours later when I called to see when it would be done I was informed that it was too big for the machine. Place next door did it in less than a hour.

 

Seems like they should still honor their advertised special unless the ad had a disclaimer.

 

oh yeah, i still got the tires cheap

and they are doing some fluid changes to cover the $79, instead of refunding it,

and dealer alignment is near same price, all good.

like Chris said, I just want to save someone else a wasted trip/day trying to get an alignment done.

My sis's fiance had the same problem..but at the dealer. He got in a wreck in his Chevy dually, long bed, 4 door. They went to align it, and realized it wouldn't fit...Don't you think they'd know that, considering its a Chevy dealership??? So they had to send it out to an H.D. alignment place which took an extra day for him to get his truck back. He wasn't happy, to say the least.

 

Firestone did not have an issue with my '06 dually long box. Although, I had to 'learn' them a few things about weight. i.e. GVWR on the door sticker vs curb weight. GVWR for my truck is 11500 vs. curb weight of 7200. When it started lifting the truck with no issue, they shut up.

My friend's longbed dodge was alligned at tirekingdom just fine. They couldnt do mine because of my 12.5in wide tires

 

Had the issue that many of the tire places couldn't lift the truck. So i called a dodge dealer, not the one I bought it from, one closer to the house because i was going to wait on it. I specifically said that it was a diesel and I had big tires. They said no problem. Well they pulled it in,put it on the rack, and it would not budge. They bought a new rack that was rated for 8000 and they couldn't lift it. Off to my originally dealer and half day gone.

 

put new shocks and tires on mine this week, and the alignment.

found exhaust was loose while under there (bought it used off here - cheap

so went to local yokel exhaust shop in a old gas station,

he was really concerned about the weight, said his lifts were rated 9000, told him truck was ~7000 pounds.

it fit on the rack (barely)
and it lifted it fine.

but the top of the tail gate was going to hit the garage door, so he had to stoop to work under it.

6 welds, put about a 3 inch seam on 6 junctions, $50.
all good, done and should last forever.

 

You went to the wrong place! their was a sale like that at NTB when i first bought my truck and they had no problems doing alignments.

 

Some places just don't have the equipment for them. I had one done at a truck and buss shop (plenty long at like 60 something feet) looked funny on there, and had my last one at sears, he could only roll it like a foot, but it let him at least do it. Guy was great which is one of the reasons I went there (he was really perfect, told him the settings I wanted, took him almost an hour to get them all perfect, not close, but perfect) will be going back if I ever need an alignment.

 

Unless the shop was particulary old, there's no reason a tire shop should not have the facilities to perform alignments on these popular types of trucks.
