taillight compatibility?

wondering if tailights listed for an 03-05 will fit my 07? the new taillights are hideous, look like they belong on a classic car.

thinking of something similar to this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-05...spagenameZWDVW

Thats a negative. Im in the same boat and find them rediculously hideious. They will fit and mount correctly just the wiring is completely wrong. The 03-06 trucks use the flat style lens but on the back they have one wiring harness per side and they use a flat bar that the bulbs themselves mount into. It uses three bulbs on a circit board looking thing with one wiring harness. Our trucks use two wiring harnesses with two bulbs. One bulb for the top and one bulb for the bottom. The only way they will work is if you do some hard wiring which im not willing to do to my brand new truck yet. I would think surely someone would have released a set that will be direct plug and play but I havnt had any luck finding one. I would like to get a set of smoked L.E.D's for my truck.

jtrimmel is right. If youre good with wiring you could pull it off, but I wouldnt try it. Recon sells smoked LED tails, they say it will fit 02-07. Read the disclaimer at the bottom.

I was going to say the same... Recon says they sell them, but I think they tell you to email first if you have an '07. This is what I will probably go with sooner or later.

No kidding, I can't wait to ditch mine too! I'd settle for the 06' stock look myself. I can't figure out how some things get from the drawing table to the actual product. It's hard to believe there was a group of people who all agreed that they looked good. Must have been someone's pet project or their kid came up with look.

Yeah i get upset just looking at the back of the truck when I see them. I wish there was away like the older trucks were you could just unplug the wiring harness like on a 04 Chevy 2500 HD all the wires have plugs and plug into a jumper box under neith the bed by the bumper. I would pay $200 just for the harness if it was possible. Im gonna give recon a call. I have heard some people having problems with them fitting correctly. They do have a nice set of lights though.

if you debadge the tailgate it takes the focus away from the taillights.

the new rear end in general is just awful, way too much going on.

The RECON lights are very nice....I have them. I also did the write-up for the install. There are a couple things you need before they will plug in, which is what the disclaimer is meant for.

You need the TRUCK SIDE harness, two of them (of course) from Dodge.....should be about $25 cost, I think. Also the 20-06 clips (all detailed out with pics in the write-up).

Mind you, the lights are not diret plug and play....but with a little ingenuity, they work and look great!

Of course you can just omit the harness and connect wires...that will work, if you don't want to get the harness.

Ther are only 5 wires, ground on each connector so really only 4 wires. One is the back up light (which you'll have to get an 02-06 bulb for the RECON lights...Pep Boys, $7).

LED's are two banks, dual brightness. Grounds go to ground, back up light goes to back up light....and the new harness gets wired so running lights go to both banks on low, blinkers get wired to both banks on high.

I don't even remember where my OEM pieces of crap are any longer!!

I am not a fan of the 07 tails at all. They look like oversized Durango tail lights.

Very similar to the 06 Chevy lights... I didn't really care for them at first, they don't bother me much now - but I will still be getting some smoked ones sometime.

I switched my 07 tails out to 03-06 aftermarket APC lamps about a year ago and posted the wiring diagram on here somewhere. If I had a stock set of 03-07 tails I could figure it out easy enough. My 07 stockers grew on me though and I started to think they look great so I slapped them back in there.

I've been thinking about this for a while and have a question for SCViper. The way I understand it is you made an adapter pigtail to go from the '07 frame harness to the '02-'06 taillight harness. That is why you need the (2)truck harnesses which I assume are for the '02-'06? But what did you find for a connector to mate with the '07 harness, that it is all that is holding me back?

Thanks, Darren

Strokedelky.....I used heat shrink and t-connectors to connect to the 07 truck-side wiring. That connected the 06 truck-side connector to the truck....and that plugged into the taillights.
