Surface Rust On Truck

Has anyone else noticed any surface rust on their truck? I have a white truck and have just noticed little specks of what looks to be surface rust. We have had a long cold spell and it has been long periods without wash but no worse than what my trucks in the past have went through. The truck is an 06 and should not be showing these signs. Any suggestions? Maybe a wax and Buff?

Check the owners manual theres usually a decent warranty for body defects/rust.

My white Ford Powerstroke ('99) had the same thing. I was told it was dust from the train rail car it was transported on. I had the dealer buff it out but I was told that one of those clay polishing kits would do the same thing.

Ive seen that before on white trucks...dont feel bad my 03 is starting to bubble right above the right rear tire. Of course warranty ran out at 100,000 miles and i found the rust at 119,000

True rail dust appears quickly on new vehicles. In fact withen days of getting on one.Top surfaces of new vehicles have a plastic film installed at plant for the same reason. Also see if specs are ONLY on top surfaces and if on TOP of the paint/clear coat.If the vehicle is several months plus in age whatever is on it got on it since you bought it.If its on the clear, clay bar etc.will remove it.

Nope. You can't even see it until you are right up on the truck though....

I thought we were talking about surface rust......I always considered that little bubbles coming up through the paint (on metal parts! LOL ). That has to be rail dust! Get a clay bar and do it yourself. Most dealer "washboys" haven't even heard of the procedure! I wouldn't let them wash my bike, let alone my truck!

The clay block works well. It's a lot of work if you have to do the whole truck, but it lifts the "specks" right out of the clear coat. Then you can do a good wax job. If you just clean and wax it out, they will reappear.

I have a white powerstroke doing the same thing. I am very good about washing the truck, but I have not waxed it in a few years. I finally got some good weather this past weekend and washed and waxed the truck. The wax took all of those little dots out of the paint, but I would imagine the clay bar would work even better.

I am noticing the rust specs around the wheel wells and no where else. I'm thinking that it might be brake dust bcause it also shows up on the plastic dually fenders.
