What are the third gen factory hitches rated for? I'm at work and someone asked and I don't know the answer.(guess I should have read the owners manual a little more throughly)
Thanks,
Joe

No, it's definately more than that. Either 12,000 or 12,500.

I guess I'll go with 12,500. Does anybody know if that is as high as a factory Dmax hitch?
Thanks
Joe

I may be wrong but normally factory hitches are rated at 500-600lbs. tongue weight and 5000-6000lbs towing weight as is. If you have a WDH (weight distibuting hitch) that changes to around 1000 lbs. tongue weihgt and 10,000 lbs towing.

The receiver is in the 12.5k range like TexasCTD mentioned, you lose some capacity with drop hitches, etc, most hitches more than 4-5" drop are rated at 500/5k, some 600/6k, but usually not more....
With my lift/tires I have a 8" drop hitch, rated at 500/5k

But those ratings are for legality, im sure people tow heavier everyday, but just be careful what the ratings are, in case something were to happen it would be your fault for being beyond the parts limits...

If you need more capacity, I believe you buy a Class V hitch and take it up to 15k.

10K weight carrying on a STOCK hitch? If your hitch isn't stock please disregard. But if it is stock, where did you get this information? That weight would infer a 1K tongue weight, and I've never seen any documentation from Dodge that says they approve a 1K tongue weight (weight carrying) on an 04.5.

This subject has been discussed over and over and over. The 05 model trucks have a sticker on them that says 500/5000 weight carrying, but the 04.5's do not. I got information from a dealer that said it was actually 600/6000 when they looked it up in some manual they had. I asked for a copy of the documentation, and they said NO.

If there's a sticker on your hitch, go with what it says - both weight carrying and weight distributing. If there's no sticker on your hitch, read below:

There have been several threads on this subject over the last couple of years - here's a couple of them:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=89887

Personally, I'm going to probably go with this setup with some Timbrens whenever my Wife lets me get something to tow that's heavy: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=100590
