Steering box ?'s please.
Steering box ?'s please.
I have some slop in the wheel and have read about tighting the box. Yes I have used the search option, but couldnt find a definitive answer. How do I tighten the box? Does it have any adverse affect on anything? Also when I have seen someone say "Have you tried looking at the steering components (ball joints) while someone turns the wheel". Do they mean with the truck running or with it off?
Sorry for all the questions, but I have never had steering stuff get sloppy on any of my other vehicles, they are usually old (70's and 80's) and messed up sp bad I wouldnt know the difference.
Thanks, Dave.

You can look for the steering slop either with the engine running or off, its easier to turn the wheel with the enigne running. Just look for looseness where the steering components attach to each other. As for the steering box adjustment I would take it to a shop that can do that kind of repairs, there are just too many variance's like:
1. worn or loose suspension or steering components.
2. worn or loose wheel bearings.
3. worn or loose steering coupler.
4. steering gear mounts.
5. steering gear out of adjustments.
