Unhappy Starter just clicks

Lately when I go to start my truck, the starter just clicks. it doesn't do it every time. I've had it in the shop twice for the problem and they cannot find the problem...or a code on the computer. last time I took it in, they said it toook 50 starts before they could get the truck to repeat the problem. I'm thinking the starter might have a dead spot in it or the ignition switch might be faulty. the truck has 26500 miles on it. had anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks in advance

Check the yellow and striped wire going to the starter solenoid. They will sometimes chaff when they go over the motor mount. Take a peak. You can't miss it. Thread stuck at the top of the engine and powertrain has a picture of it.

Edited: Oh yeah, just tape it up with electrical tape and cover it with some plastic wire loom when you get a chance.

Have you tested it with a volt-meter to see if enough juice is getting to the starter?

Dis-connect your contacts and clean them.

Or like others have said maybe a break in the wire.

Let me get this straight. The starter just clicks, so you take it to the shop and they try it 50 times until it fails, then say that they don't know what's wrong???

Disassemble, clean and lube the starter. If the contacts are pitted badly, replace them.

Could be a starter bendix (you don't have to replace the whole starter) or a tooth off the flywheel. My friend lost a tooth and on rare occaisions it had a hard time starting but making a spinning noise no click. So probably bendix.
