The newer cheapie starters are a common failure these days...its a shame. x2 on double checking the starter.

Doh, just re-read and saw clicks.......... Starter contact or ground, ignore my clutch switch comment, there would be no click if it were bad.

99% sure that one of the new parts is the problem.
Most likely the starter.
Just because parts are new you can't assume they are good these days.

Battery cable or a bad connection cleverly disguised as a good connection.

I haven't had a chance to tear into this again. Solenoid is working fine so I guess its not the fuseable link. Must be the starter. Its not doing anything, not even clicking. Ill take it off tomorrow and tear it apart.

I've got my last couple starters from dbelectical on ebay. Decent prices and fast service and so far on 2 CTD's and my KUbota tractor they have been very reliable.

Maybe you could rebuild your old 2nd gen starter...Maybe your contacts are just burnt out...You could get the larger contacts at Geno garage..
