Squeeling but dont think its the brakes?

The past couple of weeks I have had a squeeling noise that I think is coming from the passenger side front wheel. If I hit the brakes lightly it immediately goes away but then comes back when I let off. Also it doesn't happen every day. It does it for a day then goes away for a couple days so I think the problem is solved. Then it will come back and be really loud for a day. If I hit the brakes really hard it will go away for a mile or so and then come back again. I looked at the pads and they look like the could be getting pretty thin. I have 55k on the pads and do a lot of city towing. What do you guys think?

If your truck is 4X4, your front axle u-joints are probably dry and squeaking. Give a couple thousand miles and you will start to notice a vibration. Another way to check is when you hear the sqeak, put it in 4X4 (on the fly if you can). If the sqeak goes away (Axle now torqued) then the U-Joints are the prime suspect.
