Something weird
Something weird
happened this morning. It was cool out, so when starting my truck this morning it took a few seconds for the grid heater light to go out. After the truck had been running for a few seconds and the grid heaters started cycling, I noticed the "check gauges" light flashed on for about a second and then turned off. It happened twice, and both times were when the grid heater was kicking in. I noticed the voltmeter gauge had dropped down pretty low. And ideas on what this could be, never done this before.
Re:Something weird
My truck did the same thing last weekend in the Hill Country when it was cool (48 degrees). I believe it's a bug in the firmware for the instrument panel. There's a firmware upgrade to fix this issue.
Personally, I'm not going to worry about it.

Same here...I get the Check Gauges light occasionally in cold weather. It's not worth my time to have the dealer fix it. However, there is a TSB for people who do want to get it fixed. Here is the link:

Re:Something weird
Looking at the TSB, I've never seen the Low Wash light or heard the chime, nor have I seen the trans temp indicator either.
This fault fits into my "why fix something that really isn't broke" category.

Re:Something weird
Yeah I don't get the low wash chime or the trans temp. Heck, I don't even know if the wash light works or not because this rig holds like a gallon and a half of washer fluid

Re:Something weird
I used to get a random check gauges light but it stopped. I sometimes get an ABS/brake warning right before I'd shut off my truck but haven't seen that one in a while either. One time my voltmeter bottomed out for no apparent reason while I was driving and stayed that way even after I turned the key off then restarted the engine but it fixed itself the next day when I started it. I have not gotten the cluster reflash and don't intend to since, if they don't do it right, it can apparently screw it up worse. Of course, now that I've said these things have gone away they'll start happening again.
Note that it is normal for the voltmeter to dip down when the grid heater comes on.
