Snow Plow on 2500 w/out the package
that depends on the dealer. i bought my truck down south before i moved back to new york state- so it obviously did not have the snow plow prep package. my "new" dealer in ny said there would be no problem with warranty claims as long as i bought the springs and the front skid plate from them- which i did and i installed myself. dealer has lived up to his promise.
Ok the only problem with this is. Your truck could have come with a snowplow prep installed on it. A 1500 MC may not allow the plow prep. I just went through this process 2 months ago when I bought my new(used) truck. A 2500 long bed with a diesel does not come with a plow prep package and you can not order it either. So certain trucks like the 1500 MC may not allow a plow prep package. But the real question is. What is the price difference between the 2 trucks(1500/2500)? If you are not talking about a large amount of money buy the 2500. The resale over the 1500 would be huge. Take a look at some used trucks. It's hard enough to sell a used truck that has a plow on it. Good luck selling a half ton. That plow would devalue that truck to no end. The 2500 would be an easier resale. Either way both trucks are going to ride the same with a solid front axel. So buy a 2500 it can't be more that 2k in price and you will have no warranty issue's. Unless you are going after a diesel. But since you said 1500 I figured you were buying a Hemi
I think it is absolutely ridiculous that a heavy duty truck isn't rated for a plow. My 3500 SRW Long Bed wasn't available with a plow prep package. Dealer said there was a chance you could overload the axles because you could squeeze 6 guys into the truck along with all that a long bed could handle. I have been plowing snow for 14 years and have never been out with 5 other guys....occaisionally my 100lb wife might ride along to provide oral, oops I mean moral support.
They do not recomend putting a plow on a long box diesel. The reason is the CTD is too heavy. The front end in the CTD is pretty much the same as the HEMI. IMHO opinion alot of the snow plow prep specs are geared towards Upstate NY and parts of the midwest that get snow everyother day. These people ride around with the plow on all winter. Other parts of the country you get 10 storms a winter and your plow is off the next morning. But if you read the Plow prep regs. They only allow up to 500 pounds of weight in the truck when plow is on. They are foolish
They change their minds from month to month. Do you have the diesel in it. The hemi is OK to have a plow. But in general if you did put a plow on that truck it would be limited plowing. And by I mean limited. You would be limited to what driveways you could do. That thing is just to long IMHO. Shorter wheel bases are a lot easier to plow with
So for what years are they saying no longbed QC with plow package? My 2004.5 has plowed my 1/4 mi. drive and a whole bunch of parking lots with out a problem. I live in the country so 18" means next to nothing to me. I would hate to have a truck that couldn't carry an 8' load.
