Cool Small Rust Spots?

Can anyone tell me what to do with small rust spots on my truck. Dealer told me that it is caused in shiping by rail dust. There must be hundreds of spots. I know that it is not just my truck due to when I was at the dealer I looked at a white 06 and it had the same thing. The spots have been there awhile I'm just getting tired of looking at them. Help Please!!!

Sounds like you should have refused delivery of the truck.
That is the dealers baby and I would take it up with the General Manager of the dealership immediately. It is one of three things... 1) Rail dust as your dealer stated 2) Industrial fallout, next time you are near a casting plant of any kind take a look at the roadways, sidewalks, and nearby rooftops. They will all have a orange color to them from the fine particulates. 3) Brake dust and if you have any more than 100 miles on the truck they are going to throw it back at you and tell you that it is from the brake dust and that they will not be able to do anything for you.

What is the rust warranty on these trucks? Wouldnt' it be a DC issue either way?

Clay Bar will get them out along with a lot of junk you can't see. Then use a cleaner. Then rewax.

It takes a little while, but your truck will shine like new again.

Every white or silver truck I have owned has had those "micro" rust spots.

I don't know about warranty. This is not corrosion or rust of body sheet metal. It is metal that gets embedded in the paint somehow and then shows up as tiny rust spots.

Oh, I see. Just rust STAINS not rust spots. I was thinking he meant actual spots of rust coming through the paint! Glad to hear its only "skin deep"

We live in an area near a metal scrap yard, everything around it is brown. The employee's vehicles are a mess. They send them to a detail shop where they apply a wax of some sort and electricity, these tiny little specks then come right off with very little effort.

Smalz,

This is the first of it I have heard about on a Dodge, the Ford boys have a terrible time with it. The clay bars will do the trick, but first try a good cleaner wax, it is sometimes abrasive enough to get the job done and takes a loooooot less time than a clay bar does. Worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work well enough and you have to get the clay anyway! Good luck.

In the past I've seen cleaner/waxes used and in a few days the little spots returned.(never left of course)Then only thing I've seen remove rail dust was the clay bar and elbow grease.
