From: an Alaskan living in Des Moines Iowa....
I've been tossing around the idea of building something similar to what you are talking about to give my dog a place to lay while we are driving. He is a ~75lbs. Rottweiller mutt but stretches when he sleeps like he is a 175lbs. Mastiff so the backseat has become quite small for him. Aside from trading in my truck for a Mega Cab, I can't see much else to do, and I don't want a Mega Cab. So, i've thought of doing exactly as you are doing with a piece of plywood. I've been thinking of using 2x4's for the front two "legs" and attaching them to the bottom of the plywood with 90 degree hinges. That way i can lift the front of the plywood up, tuck the legs under, and slide it out of the doorway. I may even attach a couple little strips of Vel-Cro to the bottom of the plywood and the inside of the 2x4 "legs" so that they stay stuck together when folded under, which should make it much easier to remove from the truck by one person.
Once the plywood and 2x4's are cut and mounted, i think i will cut a piece of 2" foam to lay on the top of the plywood, then wrap the whole thing in a grey cloth or pleather, the legs as well. It may not completely match the interior of the truck, but it should be close enough to keep me from turning my nose up at it every time I look at it.

I like the idea of the 90 degree hinges. I will look into those. I've got a 75 pound golden, he would probably like the sleeper as well.
