Should I Paint My Alloy Wheels Black
I have a dually and I took all my hub caps off. The rims were black under them. They looked pretty good so I left them black. I like them a lot better black. If I get some extra money one of these days I want to get them powder coated black.
I had some stock alloys powdercoated. They looked good in all, but when I switched to H2s I just painted them.
My opinion just paint them. Scuff them up, clean em, spray em. I believe duplicolor makes a "special" paint for wheels.
You can do it for under 40 my guess. If you do it with the tires on, my opinion as well, you will save mounting and balancing them as well.
I can post pics of the H2s if you want. They have been painted for 6-9 months now and no issues. When I get around to rotating the tires, I will prob clean them up and re spray them.

I'm looking at some cheap chrome-plated H2 wheels where the chrome is flaking on the backside. Does the chrome need to be stripped or can I spray some etching zinc-chromate primer and then flat-black them?

I took my stock aluminum forged wheels and had them sandblasted and powdercoated black a couple of years ago at a local powdercoater. I used to run the chrome center caps but finally decided I liked them better without.
Here are some fairly recent pics before I added Lazarsmith Traction bars.

Hey Texas are you sure the stock wheels are forged? Seems like a bunch of extra money Dodge would have to spend when they could get away with cast.
If they are great but hard to believe.

According to my original window sticker it says (17'' x 8" Forged Aluminum Wheels).
That said, actually these are not "my" original wheels....these came off of an 03. Same wheels except these weren't "polished". These were "satin". Since I was going to have them sandblasted I gave my original wheels to a friend of mine in trade for his 03 wheels. That helped him out by upgrading to "polished" and it allowed me to keep rolling on my originals while the 03 Forged wheels were at the powdercoater/sandblaster.
In a nutshell, Dodge calls them "forged", FWIW.

CTD03, I don't know how good black wheels will look on your blue truck. It is Atlantic Blue BTW....
I'd search for some polished alloys or some of the new chrome clad alloys. Both types will make your truck look great...
