shift indicator screwed up

shift indicator screwed up
This morning I got into the truck and backed out of the drive way. I put it in drive but the indicator stayed in "R". Moved the shifter through all gears and it stayed in "R" still. Before I tear apart my dash, has anybody dealt with this problem. 2005 CTD auto 4x4 dually.
