shift-on-the-fly 4x4
Re:shift-on-the-fly 4x4
I'm pretty sure that there is some actual sensor to determine if 4x4 is engaged because the owner's manual states something about the the light not engaging until it actually engages. The light will flash if the previous selection can't be left or the new one engaged, or something like that! ;D
Re:shift-on-the-fly 4x4
Not to mention the lack of shift lever vibration.
And yes the light flashes until it is in 4x4, the dash has a 4x4 on the cluster also. 8)
I would`nt trade it for the manual setup ever.
My 96 had the lever and it rattled like well you know. ;D

Sorry,

after laying on my back in wet Georgia clay fixing on of those "flawless" Ford servo-motors (It had jammed in 4-wheel low), I opted for the lever actuated T/Case on my 03.

I have always like the lever, I have never owned one with the a ****, but that is what keept me from getting the Laramie. I wanted the lever, and the SLT is the only one they had with the lever. I guess it because I have never had the lever let me down. I fear change

Re:shift-on-the-fly 4x4
After owning an Exploder with SOTF I promised myself to always by a truck with mechanical linkage. This is because the Exploder left me high and dry when I really needed the 4wd. I ended up climbing under the thing (after digging the snow out from under the car) and spinning the motor by hand to get it into 4 hi, froze my butt off. Never again. I would rather not depend on an electric motor. My 2 cents
Re:shift-on-the-fly 4x4
I had push button 4wd on my '97 tahoe, used it all the time, and it never gave me a single problem, always worked when I pushed the button, even below 0F after being parked outside all night... It's nice to have that extra room on the floor boards...
Re:shift-on-the-fly 4x4
Gotta agree with Lightman on this one.

My '98 Ranger has ESOF and has worked flawlessly for five years, and it really is nice not having that lever taking up space.
