Rusty drivetrain...

Well, call me picky, I got a new 06 Ram 2500 cummins and its a great truck. I traded in my 04.5 cummins...just upgraded to the new truck and 4x4.

My question is this...anyone have rust issues?? My driveshaft is all rusty, rear brake calipers are rusty (guessin bad brake bleeding job) and the rear end is starting to rust though. I figure its a $41k truck (sticker) and its already rustin?? Why didnt they just paint the **** thing?

All of my other new trucks except one ford all had rust issues with these item you said. Not a big deal to fix but disheartning none the less. I just fixed mine use a wire wheel or something similar to remove rust then use a quality primer and then paint several coats with spraybomb. If you have the time and money I would try powdercoating, or even look into stuff called POR-15. It guarentees no rust, chips, scratches or anything again. Hope that helps a little.

Get it oil sprayed.
Wait until you start to see your doors rust at the top and bottom at the seams. Then you'll be a happy camper.

yup, I have an 3wk old 06 and mine is the same way. Disheartening for sure. This is my first Dodge, so I was surprised by this. My first thought was to have it undercoated. I may look into that, but I read in the manual you have to cover all the spinning parts to keep them from getting coating on them.... takes them out of balance.

Every NEW, on the lot, truck I saw in MA, over the past two years, was loaded with undercarriage rust. I crawled under an 04.5, when the 600's came out, to compare the resonator with a 04 SO they had on the lot and was shocked at the rust on this brand new, just recieved truck.

I hear footsteps and a salesman appears. I mention the rust and he tells me that the truck I was under was parked on the dirt area in the back of the dealers lot for a few days.

"It's probably dirt and dust."

Yea, OK, that's probably it.

I ended up getting my 05 in Connecticut, at a dealership a friend went to work for. Nothing but black under it. Not a spec of rust.

My 04 was like that and the 06 I just got is the same way. Clean and paint. Just one of a few things a guy should do with a new truck. Pull the tires and anti-seize while your at it. That way you can get them off with out a big hammer in the future.

I waxed my undercarriage the day after I bought it.Everything,Rear axle,shocks,drive shaft,body panels,spare tire wheel,EVERYTHING!!
I also spayed rubber treatment on all hoses and the spare tire. I plan on washing the undercarriage this week with a soft wash brush, lots of soap and water. Then will re wax everything again. Call me "different" but my undercarriage still looks pretty good

lol WOW! thats overkill
My 04 didn't have any rust on it when I got it. It went through and Iowa winter and spring and that was the end of that. the frame rails still have all the paint on them though except for where I have drug it on the ground and sratched the paint off. I need to get under mine with a can of primer and touch up the bad spots.
