Proper Jacking of 05 4x4, Front Axle ???
Newbie with a 05 CTD 2500 4x4
I was rotating the tires yesterday, and wasn't sure where to place the floor jack, while removing the front drivers side tire due to the solid axle, pumpkin location, and shock mount.
I didn't have enough room for a floor jack and jack stand to leave it in the air, which would've been the easy method. I pulled the jack out from under the seat, and removed the tire, and replaced it with another, before moving on.
Could I jack up the front drivers side using the pumpkin, or under the shock mount?
Wasn't sure so I went about the hard way to be safe and not hurt my baby. After doing it, I started thinking the $18 or whatever amount they charge for rotation would've been worth it.
Thanks

i jack from anything on the axles.. pumpkin, shock mount, axle tubes... my factory jack won't reach the axles with 315's on the truck, so i made an axle cradle out of some pipe to attach to a 12t bottle jack. it is a perfect fit for the rear axle, and will support the front axle well too, and just fits up front drivers side between pumpkin & knuckle.. i use that if i don't have a service jack with me.. at home i just use a 3 ton service jack [or 2] under any part of the axle..

No intention of hijacking this thread, but it brought up a thought I have wondered about. Are one of the little 2 1/4 ton floor jacks man enough to lift a wheel off the ground on one of these trucks ?

The whole truck is less than 4 tons total and I'd guess that lifting one wheel would not be more than 3000#, probably less.
