RPM Guage Malfunction

My RPM gauge does not read accurately (stays on zero most of the time) and will jump around when I accelerate ultimately ending up back on zero. Every now and then, then needle will go completely around and stayed pegged on the pin it normally rests on when the truck is off. Any suggestions? The speedo is working accurately.

Welcome to the 06 ****** tachometer club.Their are sooooo many of us now we should all have a sue Dodge party!!!Some guys have had their clusters replaced twice in a row,its obviously a manufacturing defect.Their are quite a few threads on the problem and its been around for a while.I just recently gave in and had the dealer replace mine, not under warranty. My tach not working just seemed to keep bugging me.I dont want a truck that has a bunch of stuff not workig properly on it.Its got a year warranty now ,so just watch ,the day after the warranty it will screw up just like the original did.I almost took it out myself to send to Mr Wizzard to get fixed for about $300.My dealer said they have never heard of the problem so I wonder what percentage of trucks really have bad tachs or if they just would not admit to it.I was the first 06 cluster they ever ordered.Good Luck

Wow, thanks for the info. I did a few searches, because I hate posting a new thread that has already been discussed, but didn't come up with anything. How much did the dealer charge for the new cluster (including labor)? I'm like you, I hate things not working properly.

Cluster was $412 Canadian and $140 to install it. 1.5 hrs labour .Only $179 US to fix it at Mr Wizzard but that is in the USA..for a Canadian price I have to call Mr Wizzard in Manitoba and I can tell you it most likely will be alot more since we always pay more in Canada even when our dollar = the US dollar, plus I pay the postage both ways in Canada. So
I just couldnt be bothered taking it out myself and being without the cluster for a couple of weeks or so.Took in the truck and went shopping for a couple of hours.Good Luck on yours. http://www.mrwhizard.com/Repair%20Pricing.cfm#Start

To the OP....your sig states that you sold the '06 and now have a '10. If thats the case I have that sucker done under warranty. But, yes, there have been numerous posts of the '06 guage clusters going haywire. The Mr.Wizzard fix has been the only thing I've come across as a solution.

This is the CLASSIC dealer response to EVERYTHING. This is why they suck, and why people call them S T E A L E R S .
I have three dealer that never heard of death wobble...

Instead of starting a new thread I figured I'd bring up an older one

My 06 was doing the dance at idle thing for about 8 months now. Today I had to replace my batteries because it almost quit starting! As soon as I put both new batteries in I started it up and no more tach dance!! Drove it several times and it holds solid at idle now. Not sure how the two are related but i do know these trucks do crazy things with low or weak batteries.

My tach works about 90% of the time, but every once in a while it doesn't move off the peg and reads zero. When it does malfunction, it usually starts working again after driving a few miles. Funny thing with mine was it started doing this after I changed out my batteries about a year ago! I'm just in fear of the day when the tach just stops working for good!

Well I guess it can go both ways. I am still afraid of it totally stopping!

Hey, can I get in this club too? Mine has been getting worse for a couple years at least and has finally almost completely quit now. Any reason not to just do a tach in a stack of pillar gauges or solo mounted in front of the cluster? How many trucks out there don't even have one, ya know?
