Question Rocks though the grill

I went out this morning to lift the hood check the oil and you know just admire the engine. (I know its some kind of sickness.) I got to looking at the front the truck. It looks like I have tons of small pieces of gravel thought out the fins on the first cooler behind the grill. The part behind the holes in the bumper is the worst hit area. It doesn’t appear to have any leaks now.

What can be done to protect these things from rocks?

Try the Kilby condenser guard. http://www.kilbyenterprises.com/ke-acg.htm
Also can try a window screen and tie wrapping it in front of the condenser.

I made my own condenser guard for the slot in the bumper after taking a bird strike in that area.

several nissan drivers have used the gutter guards from Lowes to protect the gaps between the grill.

I used the Spectra grill/bumper set from Cloud Rider and it stops the rocks, and various sizes and models of bugs.

tfarmer96,

For less than $10 I went to a local window screen company. I had them make a screen and frame in bronze to cover the front of the radiator. I don't remember the dimensions, but just measure the area. I used "industrial strength Velcro" ( from Home Depot) to fasten it to the radiator. It looks good, and seems to do the job. By the way, there is no increase in water temperature while towing with the a/c on. Good luck.

I have the Kilby guard, and really like it.

I think there is a photo (with link in description) in my gallery.

I went with the window screen fix. So far it has caught all the buggies and small pebbles. You can see a picture of it in my gallery.

I've heard that the window screen is too restrictive. Judging from the number of people using it, apparently, that may not be true.

I read somewhere, quite awhile ago, that it WAS too restrictive.

I have been running the window screen for over a year in the Texas heat and have had no problems. I zip tied the screen to the metal frame behind the grill assembly. That way a if I get hit by a good size rock the screen is nowhere near the radiator.

Window screen here, used it on my last truck too so thats a total of 780 000 km and no problems at all.

Thing I like best about it is the bugs that do end up stuck to it usally dry up and fall off after a few days so no major cleaning is required.

I also used the Cloud Rider. It fits around the tow hooks and looks cool.

About $60 CDN installed.

cheers
