I wonder if the "vibe" issues are related to the 2 piece driveshafts?. That "carrier" bearing on mine is not real snug. You can wiggle the whole shaft inside there.. Anyone consider going to a 1 piece driveshaft??? Also, the front driveshafts turn when not in 4x4 mode... Hope a "hubkit" comes out soon....

I had the vib on My 04.5 dually, We ended up replacing the front and rear shafts. Then the front shaft again... problem solved no more vibes..

If you can see the wobble in the new driveshaft why not try another driveshaft? Maybe even go through an aftermarket source. Is there a probem with the yoke in the rear-end? Lift kits can cause vibrations as well.

Wanting to lemon law your pickup just because DC is in the wrong isn't the best idea IMHO. If it really is going to cost you $2K-$4K, I assure you that loss of money to you will be more significant than the effect on DC buying that truck back. So even if you do win, did you really win ?

I will not, nor did I try to argue with you. As others have posted, You have a lift and this is drivetrain modification. Evan if removed, if the truck shows evidence of having had one on it, you are in for a battle. I think your truck is sweet and if you can afford the truck, all those mods, and a lawyer, I think that you would be further ahead fixing it yourself.


PS you talk about your video camera, but unless I missed it, what did you see shacking down bellow the truck?


just my .002 (intended as .002" not $.02 as I am a manufacturing manager/engineer and deal with problems like these all day)


PSS anyone that can measure the .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000002 typed above?????

You have a very nice looking rig, hate to see you get rid of it.
Several questions, have you tried a driveline shop yet? Did you rule out the front driveshaft by removing it and driving around? Did you have the vibe before or after the lift? Before or after installing rims and tires?

Seems I agree with the recent majority. It appears that you put a lot of time and money into getting that sweet ride exactly the way you want it. If it has gotten personal and you just want to see DC take it in the shorts, then pursue the buy back. Guaranteed it won't phase DC at all, but nothing lifts the spirit like a little personal satisfaction.

Scenario one: What would be cool is if you had a drive train specialist close by that could do a quick balance check on everything. If you could show your dealer that even the new shafts are out of balance, or warped, or whatever, then maybe they would try it again. Third time is the charm.

Scenario two: Instead of paying a lawyer to work the buy back, find the problem, fix it, and pay the lawyer to seek reimbursement from DC. Talk about personal satisfaction.

There's another thread going on the topic of the vibe. Apparently, there is an aluminum driveshaft that is supposed to cure it all. As opposed to prior claims to "fixes", this one appears to have some meat to it.

One poster has included pictures and another has posted the part numbers and the dealer/service tech who fixed an 03 chronic vibrator by putting these on. It is also alleged that the 05s are shipping with these.

Now, what about the rest of us??????

I have a pic of the new shaft and weight in my gallery to the left. I drove a 2004 same truck as mine except Hemi with 5spd auto (really nice to drive). It has a steel rusty shaft like mine with a 10.5 AAM like mine. It's silky smooth and 70+mph slips up un noticed. No vibration whatsoever. Hmm...

My truck has aluminum pistons and aluminum wheels. I'm sure they're fine. GM's have them on their D/As. I haven't read or heard of any problems with them.

BEHRMAN, I have pretty much the same truck as you except it is a 2WD. I have ZERO Vibration. I have watched this topic for a year now and it seems to always be a 4x4 complaining. It is apparent that it is four wheel drive related, correct?

On my Jeep the 3 inch lift kit about vibrated me out of the seat until I put a spacer under the crossmember. Has anyone tried lowering the cross member to make the vibration go away?

Did the vibration get worse after you put the lift kit in? If so it may be that Dodge had the 2WD on the edge and with the addition of the four wheel drive running gear it was over the edge. Then if you added additional lift it would increase even more. Maybe a spacer to lower the cross member and alter the drive line angles would help?

Both my shafts are steel. I've even offered to pay the dealership for an aluminum shaft. Mine's a 4x2 and vibrates.

OK, so some of the 2WD vibrate as well, then the question still holds, Has anyone dropped the transmission cross member an inch to see if a drive-line angle change will address this? What about dropping the carrier bearing? Or both?

Is the drive line mounting altered because of the physical attributes of the CTD? Is this just CTD trucks with the vibe?

I realize I have been out of the loop lately but there has to be some attribute you guys are over looking that is the cause. Jim
