removing dealer logos
removing dealer logos
OK, I thought I'd leave my dealer logo things on the truck since I got such a good deal, but realized if I do that and want to take them off eventually (when I move out of this area) the paint won't match so I'm going to do it now.
I've done searches on debadging, floss and goof off but haven't come up with many hits. My real question is has anyone used the Goof Off on the "fragile" '03 paint? Mine seems to be OK, but figured I'd ask before getting started.
My plan is to heat the things with a hair dryer (don't have a heat gun), run thread down behind and clean up with Goof Off. Thoughts, comments?
Thanks.

Re:removing dealer logos
I just pulled mine off by hand as soon as I got home. It came off with no problems. Then I wiped the area with mineral spirits to get all the glue off. Now you can't even tell the badge was ever there. I assumed that it had not been on long and that the adhesive would not have dried up yet, and I was right......

I pulled mine off as soon as I got it home from the dealer. Just latched onto it with my fingers and pulled it off. Rubbed the remaining stickum off with my thumb. Just for good measure I sprayed the area with some Windex and wiped it off good. No evidence that it was ever there...
Re:removing dealer logos
Mine just popped off. Of course it wasn't on there more than an hour after the dealer stuck it on. However, in the past I have always used WD-40 to brake down the sticky stuff. It's slow, but works and zero harm to the paint.
Mineral sprits should also have the same effect.

It took me a long time to get mine off (a couple of hours at least). After the decal was off, I sprayed on some decal remover that's specifically for paint. It tooks the goop off pretty well but I had to use quite a bit of elbow grease. I had to hit it with some rubbing compound as the paint had already faded. If your gonna want it off, take it off now - waiting isnt going to make it any easier.
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

I hate dealer decals. Every new vehicle I have purchased I have had the salesman write on the sales order that NO decals whatsoever are to be applied.
For those of you ordering new trucks, remember this. The salesman will probably tell you that it is unnessary, but force him to do it. No problems later.

My last truck I asked for no stickers. When I showed up at the dealer they had every possible magnetic sign on it.

I am going to be removing the 3500 and all the other emblems this week. A heat gun and some Skin so soft and presto gonzo

All Doctors know about SSS. Mr. Evil.
I actually use it in the summer as a light mist on the front of the truck and wherever bugs will hit it. At the end of a drive I just wipe them off or spray them off at the car wash.
Takes all the glue off from decals and emblems too.
Send your check or money order to...
;D

Re:removing dealer logos
I went to pick up my NEW car from the dealer. I had bought it 2 hours before, right after it came from the rail yard. They were trying to sell me one off the lot I didn't want when that one pulled in. My wife immediatly stated she wanted, "THAT ONE". We agreed on a price and wrote up the deal, but they needed to clean it up. I had the salesman write in large letters on order "NO DEALER ID PLATE TO BE ATTACHED TO CAR" This dealer put them, Large Chrome thing, on LH of trunk.
I was in the process of leaving the area so it wouldn't of done them any good on top of it. We come back and there is our shiney new car with their shiney plate on it. When I complained to the owner about NO one reading the paper work
they tore up the contract, while telling me they didn't need customers like us.
