Rattle Trap
Rattle Trap
Last Saturday I pulled the door panels and installed the 80mil Rattle Trap. The stuff I used is plain vanilla with no markings. It looks and feels just like the ice barrier protection roofers use on asphalt shingle roofs. If I need more than the 50sqft roll that I got off fee bay, that's what I will use.Took about 2hrs to do all four doors on the QC. For those that haven't done this a word of advice: Cut the mat into strips about 4" wide and half as long as you think you need. Working thru the access panels and holes isn't the easiest of tasks but cutting it into strips will make life a lot easier. This stuff may not feel too sticky, but if you let the two sticky surfaces touch you'll find out differently
. It's not like you're going to put the inside of your door on display, so don't get too concerned with the looks. Overlap is fine, so is having a bare spot or two....or three. The main objective is to get the panel covered, not to win the beauty contest
. Go under the tracks, watch the moving parts of the locking system, and make sure the panel is dry. Be careful smoothing out the mat with your hands, The aluminum backing is sharp.......and so is the sheet metal on the door. After "matting" the door skins, I sprayed Waxoyl Rust Protection on all exposed metal, the lower door seams, hinges, and latches. The next part of the project will be the rear wall on the QC. Just doing the door panels reduced the rumble and drone by a good 50%. I'm going to hold off on matting the floor pan until I undercoat the body in the Spring with Waxoyl Underbody Protection. This Waxoyl stuff is phenomenal so I want to see if the undercoating will also cut down on the drone!
