Rattle Noise in Chassis???

I recently started getting a rattle noise coming from underneath the truck. I hear it when I'm driving in various conditions expansion joints to smoother surfaces.

It's hard to describe a noise on the computer but the best I've come up with is it sounds like one of the frames that support the seats are loose. I checked the seats and they're tight.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Get in the bed of the truck and jump. If you hear a metal clicking noise then it's your shocks clanking on the upper shock bolts. My KYB's and now the Monroe Relfex have both done it. If your not sure, take the bottom shock bolt off and you can rattle the shock on the upper bolt to verify. I'm going to try the Rancho's 9100 next as they use a urethane bushing. Hope that helps.

The jack and and handle sometimes rattles under the passenger seat, just a thought.

Would this happen with the stock shocks and a completely stock truck with 20K?

I'll check the jack under the seat as well.

I took the OEM's off at about 20K. You can remove the lower shock bolt and check in 5 minites time. It may not be it but mine sounded like anything BUT a shock.

I've noticed recently that the truck doesn't seem to be as "tight" in turns etc. and bottoms out easier in the front going over speed bumps.

What is a good replacement shock that will have better handling characteristics than stock?

I have a rattle coming from under my 06 CTD. To me it sounds like a washer loose on a bolt and seems to be coming from the engine compartment... At first it would only do it once in a while, and it is progressively getting worse.

Any ideas? My wife thinks I am nuts having her rev the engine while I climb under the truck... even took it to the "*******" and they said everything is just fine.

I had a rattle that took me a long time to find. It was the wheel well liner on the left front. I think there were 3 screws loose. Check that.

This noise is more of a heavy metal "clunk" than a rattle.
