rattle/rubbing noise when turning?

just recently i have noticed a rattle/ rubbing noise when turning the steering wheel to either side. the noise sounds just like when you have too big of a tire and the tire is rubbing on the inner fender well, but is not in my case. i can't see any rub marks or anything under the front of the truck. my truck is a 4x4, the ball joints seem ok with no abnormal tire wear, but have not checked them properly. just wondering if anyone else has encountered this type of problem or if it might be some sort of common thing for 4x4 dodge trucks.

I have the same problem too. I jacked up the 4x4 which has 162K and there is no play side to side nor top to bottom. How do you tell if these sealed bearings are going out?

This is my question as well, it seems the Hub bearing unit has to replaced as a unit, can't clean and repack them like the older trucks. How long do they last and what does it sound like when they are going out? Will you know when they fail and/or will the wheels lock up...sorry not too smart on suspension parts, thanks guys

You should fell some vibration and you will hear a sort of rumbling sound which would be louder at higher speeds. The bearing can be worn out and have no movement. The hubs will not spin very well when everything is disconnected it will fell like the bearings have flat spots on then.

The noise i hear is only between 25-40 mph worse when coasting to a stop..sounds like a severely out of round mud-tire howling, but i have decent Dayton-all terrains 285-75/r16's on there that have quite a bit of tread left...that's why i'm thinking it might be the bearings ...
