Question on Keys - '06 Dodge
Do the keys for the '06 Dodge have a security chip in them or do they simply serve as a remote for the keyless entry.
I hate carrying that big key in my pocket and would like to have a key cut that does not have the remote made onto the end of it. I know my wifes car, a mercury, will not work unless the key itlself is programmed to the vehicle. A key cut from a blank will open the door and fit the igntion, but it will not start the car.

They are sentry keys. However you can still get a key that will start the engine just like the 05's it just won't have the remote on it to open your doors and it will still have to be programed. You'll have to open the doors with the key like the old days. Part number is 5134937aa and they run about $50.00 before programing.

I got keys on ebay for $15 each(they are normal size). As long as you have 2 working (already programmed) sentry keys you can program them yourself, up to 8 keys, it's very easy and it's explained in the owners manual. Then you can cut the key part off of the Dodge key and carry it like a "normal" fob (or not).
