question about coating or paint for stacks

I will be putting stacks on my truck soon but the set comes with chrome stack but i want them satin or flat black either painted or some sort of coating im just wondering if anyone has any ideas that would work and hold up to the temp an abuse that the heat does and should the chrome be stripped off of them first? I used to own a gun store so i half way thought about bluing them but not sure how that would turn out anyhow any info would be great
Thanks.

I've been told by 2 powder coating shops that the chrome needs to be removed. You might could get by with some high temp paint but not sure on the durability of it.I have a 7" mitre(chrome) I was gonna strip and PC but now think I'm gonna sell it and buy an unfinished stack.

The chrome does not have to be completly remove. I can powdercoat chrome parts at home without any problem. But you do need a rougher surface to get anything to stick. I use some fine sandpaper to roughen it up. Bead blasting works pretty good, too.

I would use a ceramic coating. It comes in a variety of colors, including sating black. It really makes a difference in surface temp, too. Use a company like Jet Hot that coats both the inside and the outside of the pipes, then you'll never have to worry about rust.

Here's a pic of my stack before I had it installed. Got it from a place in South Carolina. I think the website is DeepSouthDiesel.com. I'm sure the guy there can tell you what kind of paint or coating to use. I don't remember his name, but he was always friendly and informative to me when I was shopping around for my stack.
