I dont think there is a way with only one programmed key.

On a similar note, on the keys that have the fob built on them like the 06 keys, how do you program the remote keyless entry? Is that taken care of when you program the unprogrammed Sentry Key with two "good" keys?

Sorry but you need 2 keys.

After you get your new expensive key, find additional cheap keys on eBay and program them yourself for future loss(es). Make sure they have the same codes (look on the back of your key for the codes). Obviously the new keys will have to be cut also.

You only need one programed key fob. I have done it many times. Here's how you do it!

1. Enter vehicle and close all doors
2. Fasten seat belt turn ignition to on let chime stop.
3. Press & hold the UNLOCK button on the programmed key fob for 4 seconds. Within 6 seconds with the unlock button still depressed, press the panic button. When a single chime is heard, release both buttons. The chime indicates the system is in program mode.
4. Press and release both the lock & unlock buttons simultaneously on the fob to be programmed. A single chime will be heard. This indicates the fob has been recognized.
5. Within 4 seconds of hearing the chime, press and release the lock and panic button on the fob being programmed. A single chime will be heard. This indicates the fob has been programmed.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for up to a total of 4 fobs.
7. Turn off ignition.
8. Cycle the ignition after 60 seconds. With in this time the vehicle will exit the program mode and all fobs should function normally.

sdarchery,
I'm a little confused.I have the gray key(2004.5).Using the method you describe, can I program a new key with only the one key that I have? The other went overboard.I hope I can.It will save me $175.00 and the hassle of going to the dealer. Thanks in advance.

My bad,I think that is the method of programming the FOB and not a new key.

You should be able to program up to eight working ignition keys on you truck, but as it has been stated before, you can't program them yourself unless you have two programed keys to begin with.

I know you can do it, but he isn't programming a fob he wants to know how to program a SKIM key.

I think I may have started the confusion (sorry) so maybe I should be the one to clearify. Let me know if this is incorrect.

You cannot program a gray key (2003 type) or a black key with the built in fob (2006 type) unless you have two programmed keys.

You can program a fob (2003 type seperate from key) or a fob (2006 type made as part of the key) with only one working fob using the method described by sdarchery in steps 1-8. Is this all correct??

I think everyone is correct. I just threw a wrench in the works on my first post when I switched the question from key to fob programming.
Thanks for fob programming info.

You are correct except for the SKREEM key(combined key/fob). You still need two programmed keys for that, the fob is programmed when the sentry key part is coded.

I thought that may be the case for the SKREEM key.
Thanks for the clarification 79warlock.
