Power seat motor gear
Does anyone have an option to repair a seat drive motor gear other than replacing the whole seat track?
The service manual says that the seat track must be replaced. i don't believe it.

Had the same thing happen to me and put a post on here and no solutions other than replace the whole track assymbly for about 400 bucks. Consiquently mine is still broken, my front up and down gear broke so I just positioned it where I normally have it set and left it alone. I can't believe a 10cent gear would end up costing over 400 dollars.
I just want to add a little thought.
I have not ever looked at the seat rack on my new truck, but when I had my 2001 I read in the 2nd gen forums that some people found a fix. Im not sure if its similar or the same as a 2nd gen, but a few people were able to take apart the whole assembly and take the motors to a local electric repair shop and have the motors rebuilt.
Again, Im not sure if they are even able to be taken apart, but its worth a shot if you ask me.
Have a good one.

It is also the front up and down motor.
From what I see, the motor is riveted on the rail. The rivets that hold the motor on also hold the track together. I think the reason DC says replace the track is for safety concerns.
The plastic gear, being the weak point, gave up the ghost. The motor is working and the shaft is turning, just no gear to finish the job. I priced a used seat track at $170 on one of those part finders that the junkyards have on the web.
One of these days, I will take the thing apart and drill the motor off to see what's up. I know a good machinist who will make a gear for free!
