Power to Manual Seat Conversion
Power to Manual Seat Conversion
Yeah, I know, this sounds backwards, but I am legitimately going from a power to manual seat in an 05 3500 Cummins. It's our work truck, and the power motor went. So, instead of shelling out over $400 for a new one, I'd like to just make it a manual seat. It's become an issue, as the various drivers of the truck are various heights (some can't even drive it anymore, due to inability to reach the pedals.) My question is, exactly what parts do I need to make this conversion? Google searching has not been very helpful, and any of the parts sites I've found that carry such components, aren't very descriptive in whats included in what you're buying. I know I need a Manual Seat Adjuster, which I've seen for around $140. Are there any other associated parts I'll need to successfully complete this conversion?

Welcome to DTR!!
Did the motor quit or something actually break on the seat?
You can get replacement motors pretty cheap. There is a link floating around here where you can buy them. I just had one of my motors quit (up and down) and IIRC the replacement was only like $60
I'll look for the link later, or you can search here for seat motors and will probably find it.

There's a good chance something else broke. The motor still functions, though when trying to slide forward/backward, only one side will move. The outer side stays in place. I assumed this was something with the gearing in the motor, though it could be a track problem as well, I suppose
Most of the time when the seat motors fail to move the seats,it is due to the plastic gears within shearing off. There are two ways to remedy this common issue. One is to replace the entire seat base/ track assembly equipped with new motors riveted to it through the dealer. The base is approximately 585.00 from the dealer. The other is to replace the individual motors by purchasing them from 2 men 1 garage. This is the most cost effective method that is easy to do yourself. Here is a link for your review.
