I don't know if it applies to Dodge but on Jeeps, it was usally caused by the track bar.

How many miles on your truck? Can you feel anything in the steering wheel when this happens? Have you checked your wheel nuts for tightness? Have you jacked up the front wheels and given them a good shake? When you have it up on the jack, stick a crowbar under the tire and lift up and see if there is any free movement.

Usually a loose shock or track bar.

I had this once. It was the trackbar bolt on the axle. Crank it as tight as you can, and then just twist it a little bit more.

My friends 04.5 did that.

They replaced the entire left side suspension (control arms, ball joints).

Still did it.

He ended up getting rid of it, and getting a 05.........problem solved.

My 03 did that after I installed my 2" leveling kit . I tightened everything pretty tight. Well when turning, I got a thump sound only in one direction. Had a friend turn the wheel back and fourth while I laid up front to see whats up. One of the arms I removed from the steering looked loose while moving. I then got the torque from the manual and tightened it..... moved by about a turn and a 1/2. FIXED...no more thump.
