Poor A/C flow

Ive got a 2006 Mega cab 1500, the A/C will blow reasonably well for a while, sometimes over an hour then it moves little air. The recirc door is fine and operable, the Air is cold but just has little flow. Ive read about a mesh screen in the ducting but cant locate it. Has anyone ever removed this nylon mesh net tell me where it is??

thanks,

Sounds like the evap core is icing up. If you switch off the A/C for 5-10 min, does the flow pick up again?

Does sounds like the evaporator is icing up. Might be slightly low on freon.

Could also be a problem with the evap core temp sensor causing the core to ice up. I think there was a bulletin on it...?

Ditto on the evaporator icing up. Needs 134 added.

I just had my evaporator replaced in my 06 Mega Laramie and it has the "poor flow" problem also. The dealership has checked the freon twice and say its not low and the pressures are within limits. I hope you don't have the same problem I do because I can't figure out why my flow is so poor either...best of luck.

reyberg:

If that's the case, I'd:

a. Make sure the correct amount of 134a was installed.
b. If not, correct that first.
c. Try adding .25lb of 134a at a time and see if that delays the low flow.
d. Monitor the high side and make sure the fan locks up.

Thank you. I saw how much the tech evacuated out of the system and it was
1.65 lbs. Seems to me it should be around 1.875 lbs.
That comes out to 1 lb 14oz which is what the sticker on the radiator says. Is it better to have a little more rather than a little less?

With 134a too much will not cool down as well and raise hi side pressures. Too low can cause compressor to cycle too often and ice up the evap. Best bet is to get it on the money and go from there.
