PML vs. Mag Hytec diff covers

Is the MH worth the extra bucks? And, what about the front? Is the PML much easier to put on the front?

I have the mag in the rear. I think it is worth the money. I am unsure about the front. here a lot of stories about it rubbing the sterring. am going with pml in the front.

I have the MH in the rear and a PML up front. I think the MH is nicer but not really worth the extra bucks. I did have a little rubbing on the front from the upgraded steering stabilizer mount but a little work with the dremel took care of that. I had no rubbing with the original steering set up.

unless you are in 4x4 A LOT - the front cover upgrade is just for looks. if you use 4x4 in the winter quite a bit - the cooler weather is probably sufficient to keep the fluid temps down.

I dissagree. with the front cover you get a drain plug. that is a big up grade for me. and unless you have went to hubs you front end is turning even if not in 4x4. so little more oil can't hert.

That would be nice. But those are not the right ones for my truck.

I chose the PML mainly for the looks. I think it looks less gimmicky than the mag.
Plus the better price made it an easy choice for me.

I went with the PML cover, but the Mag Hytec is also a very nice cover. I just liked the looks and the price of the PML; and I liked the fact that PML's retain the stock factory gaskets for the diffs and the transmission.

I currently have the MH rear, and will be adding a PML front at my next diff fluid change.

The main reason is the drain plug.

I have the MH's on both front and rear axles. The drain is truly convenient. Also, the additional port is nice to have for things like temp gauges. I have NO steering component interference. They were both easy to install. Having a little additional fluid and good cooling is a must with lifespan of the gears AND the oil longevity. As was said, the front end is turning just like the back end, and there is a TON of constant weight on the front end as compared to the rear end. GREAT mod as far as I am concerned.

I'd have to disagree that the front is doing anywhere near as much work as the rear based on the condition of the fluids. At 15K the rear fluid was dark and had some metallic content; the front was still golden.

IMHO, there is no need at all for a larger front cover and a larger rear cover is really only justified if you regularly haul heavy. The drain plug is convenient, for sure, but hardly justifies the expense.
