Owners Manual and towing!!!!???!!!

I was reading in my 07 owners manual that the first 500 miles you tow your NOT supposed to Exceed 50MPH? I did not tow the first 500 miles as instructed but I have never had an issue towing after that. I assume this is for the rear gears to wear in????

I installed a PML cover at 500 miles and have towed about 200 miles and driven 60 MPH or so.... Living in Southern Calif where I do, If I went 50 only, I would cause an accident!!! Anybody else follow this to a tee??? Suggestions?? Thanks!

I didn't follow the 500 mile towing break in. But I already had a couple of thousand miles on the truck before towing anyway.

I think the info in the manual is primarily lawyer talk. If you do have problems downstream they can say you didn't follow "proper procedures" in breaking in your truck.

I saw a post someplace where a guy said it was to break in the rear end gears and to just go into a paved parking lot and go around in circles both ways. I did that and also waited 500 miles but 50 mph was more like 70.

I believe this is true and it applies to every vehicle, not just trucks. I had a '92 Z-28 I bought brand new. Drove it for a week babying it, changed the oil and started street racing it. I never had any running problems with it, no tranny troubles, and at 150,000 miles it still didn't puff any blue oil on cold start up; the old Chevy small block mark of honor!
