Owner customization...

Just had a question on these trucks. Before I bought my '06.5 I demo'd a '07 and remembered it had a card/book thing in the glove box with instructions on how to change a bunch of little things about the truck. Like if the lights and or horn honk when you lock the doors with the fob, light timer delays, and other things like that. Do you guys know what Im talking about? My truck didnt have that in it, so Im wondering if this is only a '07 thing, or if I just didnt get it? Would like to be able to do those little things to my truck too if I knew how, that booklet was neat!

Thanks, Matt

PS happy new year!

I recall my owners manual giving directions for changing a few things but not many, in 07 they may have more options that can be controled by the user without going to the dealer to turn on/off or adjust.

I have an 07 with the 5.9 and that info came on a separate card if I remember right. I don't remember looking in the manual to get that info. If you need to change something, post it, I am sure someone will have the info you need. But look at your packet of paper work from the dealer, and see if it is in an info pamphlet.

I went to look up something in the manual the other day and found this card your talking about. I read it. All of the info is in the owners manual as well. With that said, I still can't get my horn not to honk when locking the doors.

My 06 has the info in the owner's manual. I was able to change mine so that with one push of the unlock button - all doors unlock. I also disabled the horn when it locks. Parking lights just flash when lock/unlock is pressed. If you can't find it in your manual, I will try to find it later.

I like the horn honk when it locks feature. I leave my truck parked for a week at a time when I'm otr. Nothing would be worse than to be 500 miles away wondering if I pressed lock or unlock. When the horn beeps I know

I like all the features the truck has already, like the lights and horn honking when I lock it, the auto door lock and unlock. What I would like is the ability to adjust how long the headlight delay is for when you leave the truck, and the aux power for when the ignition is shut off so the radio and power outlets work until the door opens. Neither of these work on mine. Long story short, the dealer screwed up and gave me both an 07 and an 06 owners manual. The 07 allows you to change these through the overhead which is different than the 06. The 06 book only tells me how to do a few of the options, the 07 book all of them, but with the different overhead also. Is this something that I am going to have to get the dealer to change for me, or do any of you have a way? Any other ideas?

Thanks, Matt

I used to like the horn honk feature, but when you get off work at midnight and home around 12:45am....you get every dog in the neighborhood barking even with the single honk. I just look at the lights to see if its locked. I also always visually look to make sure it locked. As with anything, even a "honk" doesn't always mean that your truck is locked, things do break.

If you can not make the adjustments you want from the overhead then you will have to go see the dealer and they can adjust the items you want using the starscan tool will only take a few min. They may want to charge you reports vary based on if you got the truck from them, if you are having other work done or there mood.

Same problem here, shift worker. Why on earth do i want my horn honking at midnight or 4 AM? I quit using the power locks shortly after I bought mine because of that, I hate them. I just use the manual **** now, and the key to unlock. Disabled all that dumb crap. BUT....i tried for hours to get that stupid horn thing disabled one night, to no avail. Was following the instructions in the manual to the letter. Next time i was at the dealership, I asked about it, they thought i was nuts or stupid. 4 salesmen tried, none of them could do it either. Finally a mechanic was called out of the shop. He laughed, and said, I don't care WHAT it says in the book, you can't do it that way, you need the scan tool thing. He had it done in about 30 seconds.

i don't like carrying around that honkin' huge key that's fragile and doesn't fit on a key ring worth beans. And then.....if you want to warm up the truck when it's cold out, you need a second one to get the door open again (after you lock it manually because the power locks won't lock with the key in the ignition) Who wants to carry two of those stupid things around? I just got a couple of non-remote transponder keys and programmed those. Haven't used the big keys since.

I took my truck to the dealer and had them disable the horn chirp and the automatic door lock features.

I also turned off the seatbelt alarm with this procedure.

ENHANCED SEATBELT REMINDER PROGRAMMING
The seatbelt indicator also includes a programmable enhanced seatbelt reminder or “beltminder” feature that is
enabled when the vehicle is shipped from the factory. This beltminder feature provides extended and modified visual
seatbelt indicator and audible chime warning responses to an unbuckled driver side front seat belt. The beltminder
feature may be disabled or enabled by the customer using the programming sequence that follows, or by the dealer
using a diagnostic scan tool.
CUSTOMER PROGRAMMING SEQUENCE
NOTE: The following sequence of events must occur within sixty (60) seconds of the ignition switch being
placed in the On position in order for the programming to be completed successfully.
1. With all doors closed and the ignition switch in any position except On or Start, buckle the driver side front seat
belt.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the On position and wait for the seatbelt indicator reminder function to conclude (about
six seconds).
3. Unbuckle and buckle the driver side front seat belt three or more times, ending with the belt buckled.
4. Turn the ignition switch to any position except On or Start to toggle the beltminder feature from its current setting
(from active to inactive, or from inactive to active). A single chime tone will provide an audible confirmation that
the programming sequence has been successfully completed

My truck is a late '06 build truck, so it hasnt needed any of the flashes some of the older ones needed or recalls. I believe there is some differences in programming as well. Not sure though. Thanks also for the belt minder procedure, I will do that. I always wear my belt on the road, but around the ranch and after opening the gates at the end of the driveway, it can get awful annoying fast. Anybody know how to make the accessory delay work on my truck?

Thanks, Matt

The trucks that seem to have the problems in the '06 year seem to be the early build date ones, hence '06 and '06.5... Thats the understanding I have gotten from this forum at least. I was told that if the truck is made after the beginning of the year of the truck (Mine is Feb.) then it is an '06.5. Anything before January is an '06. You can also notice that some performance programmers and modules specify between the two as well. When I was looking to get a PacBrake retarder, they wanted to know so I asked why, they said the early 06 needed a transmission controller but the later like mine does not. There must be some fairly reasonable differences, but I dont know how many.
